Lately, Sports Talk seems to be a “go to” format for stations in need. Here in Ann Arbor, Sports Talk P1’s can choose from five Sports stations!
OK, so two of those are Detroit AMs with marginal signals here. But Sports Talk P1’s are a “determined bunch,” braving static to hear talk about their teams 😉
In some respects, they’re like News/Talk P1’s…
- They listen “to hear what other people are talking or thinking about” just as much, and more than any other format’s P1’s.
- They listen to “to learn things that make you more informed than other people” just as much, and more than any other format’s P1’s.
- They listen to “to learn things that make you more interesting to others” just as much, and more than any other format’s P1’s.
But Sports Talk P1’s are definitely more social. Their listening to “add to the fun ” when they’re with others is just average, but well ahead of News/Talk P1’s on that score.
And, much more than News/Talkers and listeners overall, Sports Talk P1’s listen for the laughs:
|MAKE YOU LAUGH .||TOTAL .||SPTK P1’s|
|NOT AT ALL IMPORTANT||11%||6%|
In fact, Sports Talk P1’s listen for humor more than any other format’s P1’s! (Personally, I find Jim Rome funny, but some of his callers funnier…whether they realize it or not.)
But just like sports fans watching a tight game, Sports Talk P1’s can run a gamut of emotions — from humor to anger. They’re the #1 “listen to hear things that make you angry” P1’s!
|MAKE YOU ANGRY .||TOTAL .||SPTK P1’s|
|NOT AT ALL IMPORTANT||61%||44%|
What’s to get angry about??? Hey, sports fans can get pretty riled up…I learned that the hard way when I wore my Bears gear to a Lions home game 🙁
